Every family has moments when the future narrows to a decision. Sometimes the decision arrives all at once. Sometimes it gathers slowly through appointments, questions, second opinions and the realization that there may never be one certain answer.
The Person Beside the Patient
When someone you love has cancer, attention naturally turns toward the patient. But the person standing beside them is living through change, uncertainty and responsibility too.
In our story, that person has often been Patty. She was my wife before cancer, and caregiving grew around our relationship because life required it.
The Day Everything Changed
There are moments that divide life into before and after. For us, it began with three words: “You have cancer.” We remember the call, the flood of information and the instant our future suddenly looked different.
